What's more, it's authoritative, with papers written by members of the working groups that developed the specification, and the complete 3000 page Single UNIX Specification, Version 2 is included on the CD-ROM, together with other related specifications.

Synopsis

The Open Group has published a new edition of the Go Solo Source Book covering the current state of the art of the UNIX System.

The new edition is entitled The UNIX System Today.

This has been expanded and revised to include new sections on UNIX system networking (Distributed file systems, WebNFS, NFS, Samba), the X Window System , UNIX system clustering, the Linux operating system and Open Source in addition to the material covering the Single UNIX Specification and the UNIX 98 product standards .

The book also includes two CD-ROMs.

The first CD-ROM includes the full documentation set for the Single UNIX Specification V2 and related UNIX 98 specifications (including the Motif, CDE, X11R5 specifications), technical papers, migration information between versions of the Single UNIX Specification, the XNS 5.2 specification, the TPI and DLPI specifications, the X11R6.4 sample implementation, and a set of PDF reader software.

The second CD-ROM produced by VA Linux Systems contains a complete copy of the Debian GNU/Linux operating system. Debian GNU/Linux is an Open Source operating system developed solely by the cooperative effort of over 500 individuals throughout the Internet. This has been included in recognition of the increasing importance that Open Source operating systems are playing in todays marketplace.
