IBM DELIVERS FIRST UNIX® 98 SERVER BRANDED PRODUCTS

MENLO PARK, CA (December 18, 2000) The Open Group today announced the first registered products for the UNIX 98 Server product standard:

Product Standard(s): UNIX 98, UNIX 98 Server, Internet Server
Product: Systems using Power(TM) or PowerPC(TM) architecture based processors with AIX Version 4, Release 3 Modification 3 dated 10-2000 or later and IBM VAC Version 5.0.1 or later

Certification date:30 November 2000.

The Open Group has been the custodian of the specification for the UNIX system and the trademark since 1993. The effort that led to this transfer was the catalyst for all vendors to make their systems conform to this single definition, a goal that had been elusive in previous harmonization efforts.
